First Boffer Weapon Build

So I am a NEWB, I have never LARPed before nor have I ever played D&D or any other variation of such a game. That being said my brother who is alos a NEWB is trying to get into LARP and since he knows that I do read a lot of fantasy and have an affinity for weapons and combat he has coerced me into playing as well. So I did not want to go out and spend a bunch of money on a weapon (though it is tempting with all the cool stuff out there) So I decided that I would use the multiple videos and and such online to build my own weapon. I have always been most comfortable with a quarterstaff or Bo staff so I decided that it would be my starting point. as the weapon evolved it changed as with it's substatial size it was going to be too difficult to use it as a normal staff so I changed it up and now it is a double ended warhammer.
I used a 6' length of 3/4" pvc pipe as my core and as christmas just ended I picked up two 4" hard foam balls  designed for create-your-own tree ornament. I cut out a hole the width of my core about 3" deep into the balls, capped my core with quarters and duck tape then used hot glue to affix the core to the balls. after the gule dried I wrapped the balls in duck tape, leaving me with a giant Q-tip.

next I took a twin mattress pad and wrapped my core and both balls forming the rough outline of my hammers

now more foam for safety

now it's time for tape. I used Silver Max Duck Tape for the heads and Black Gorrila tape for the shaft

now just a little more black tape to even it out and add some white cloth hockey grip tape

and that's that. Here's a final shot of it standing up next to a doorway so you can get the full effect

So that's my first build. Lemme know what you guys think!

ok so my photos don't show up so this is pointless

I would have used nerf balls for the hammer core instead of the hard foam. I feel it would last a litle longer that way

ok pvc is a good first weapon, but lemme see if i can find the video i was inspired by, or if you wait a week or two ill just post a video, main theme of the story is, blue coleman camp foam for the padding, 3/8 inch oak (important, oak doesnt splinter) dowell, dowell soaked in fiberglass resin, rope wrapped around handle for grip. Ill try to make a video soon.
