Sometimes wealth comes in unexpected ways. This is represented by Fortune, which works like Gold but can be used to generate any kind of Treasure of equal value. Unlike Treasure acquired through questing, crafting, or trading, Fortune allows you to happen upon treasure through sheer luck, hand-picking items that may otherwise be difficult to acquire.
You can use Karma to buy Fortune on a two-for-one basis. If your character dies or retires, you receive half the value of their Treasure as Fortune to buy Treasure for your next character. You may also receive Fortune in exchange for Treasure that is revised or invalidated as a result of game system revisions.
However you receive Fortune, there is a limit to the most expensive item you can buy with it. This is your Fortune Cap.
- When you draw treasure at an event with a Value greater than your Fortune Cap, your Fortune Cap increases to the same Value.
- When you craft treasure during downtime with a Value greater than your Fortune Cap, your Fortune Cap increases to the same Value.
- After your character dies, is written out, or retires, your Fortune Cap is halved.
